Refreshing Strawberry Mojito Recipe

When it comes to refreshing summer cocktails, few can rival the delightful balance of flavors found in a classic mojito. But what if you could elevate this beloved drink with a burst of fruity goodness? Enter the Strawberry Mojito—an invigorating twist on the traditional recipe that combines the refreshing essence of mint with the naturally sweet and tangy flavor of strawberries. Perfect for backyard gatherings or a quiet evening on the porch, this Strawberry Mojito is sure to become your go-to summer drink.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup sliced strawberries (about 2 large strawberries)
  • 4 large fresh mint leaves
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (or to taste)
  • Club soda (enough to fill the glass)

Instructions

  1. Muddle the Ingredients: Begin by placing the sliced strawberries, fresh mint leaves, white rum, and sugar in a highball glass. Use a muddler or the back of a large wooden spoon to gently press and mix the ingredients. The goal is to release the juices from the strawberries and mint while dissolving the sugar. Be cautious not to over-muddle, as this can make the mint leaves turn bitter and brown. This process should take about 30 seconds.

  2. Top with Club Soda: Once muddled, fill the glass with club soda. Stir gently to combine the flavors.

  3. Garnish and Serve: To finish, garnish your Strawberry Mojito with a sprig of fresh mint and a slice of strawberry. This not only adds a touch of elegance but also enhances the aromatic experience.

  4. Enjoy Immediately: This cocktail is best enjoyed fresh, so drink up and savor the refreshing blend!

Tips and Variations

  • Fresh vs. Frozen Strawberries: While fresh strawberries are always recommended for the best flavor, frozen strawberries can be used if you’re in a pinch. Just make sure to thaw them before muddling.

  • Mint Alternatives: If you’re feeling adventurous, swap the mint for fresh basil or rosemary. Each will impart a unique twist to your mojito.

  • Rum Variations: For a tropical flair, substitute white rum with coconut rum. Alternatively, vodka, gin, or tequila can be used for different flavor profiles.

  • Sweetness Adjustments: If you have simple syrup on hand, you can replace the sugar with 1½ teaspoons of simple syrup. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.

  • Additional Flavor: If your mojito feels too sweet, balance it with a splash of lime juice or a dash of Angostura bitters. For a richer taste, consider adding a floater of dark rum.

Ingredients

Strawberry Mojito
  • 60 g sliced strawberries about 2 large strawberries
  • 4 leaves large fresh mint leaves
  • 60 ml white rum
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar or to taste
  • 100 ml club soda enough to fill the glass

Equipment

  • Highball Glass

Method

  1. Place the strawberries, mint, rum, and sugar in a highball glass. Muddle until the strawberries have released their juices and the sugar has dissolved– about 30 seconds.
  2. Top with club soda and garnish with fresh mint and a sliced strawberry.
  3. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

Although I always recommend using fresh strawberries, you can use frozen in a pinch. Do not use dried mint; it must be fresh! You can replace the white rum with coconut rum, vodka, gin, or tequila for a different flavor. If you don’t have a muddler, use the back of a large wooden spoon. If your mojito is too sweet, add lime juice or a splash of Angostura bitters.
