Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili sauce or sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 red chili, sliced (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Toss the beef slices in cornstarch, ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the beef in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, honey, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  4. Discard most of the oil from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add garlic, ginger, and sliced chili, stirring until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  5. Toss in the red and green bell peppers and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet, bringing it to a simmer. Allow it to thicken slightly (about 2 minutes).
  7. Add the crispy beef back into the skillet, tossing to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less chili sauce.
  • For extra crunch, fry the beef twice.
  • Best served immediately to maintain crispiness.
