Valentine Red Velvet Brownies: A Sweet Treat for Your Sweetheart

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show your loved ones just how much they mean to you, and what better way to express your affection than with homemade Red Velvet Brownies? These rich, decadent treats combine a classic red velvet flavor with a luscious white chocolate frosting, embellished with festive Valentine M&M’s and heart-shaped sprinkles. Whether you’re sharing them with a partner, family, or friends, these brownies are sure to make hearts flutter.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Brownies:

  • ½ cup butter, cubed (1 stick)
  • ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons red liquid food color OR 1 tablespoon red gel food color
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

For the Frosting:

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces)
  • 2 cups white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup Valentine M&M’s
  • ⅛ cup heart-shaped sprinkles

Step-by-Step Instructions

Preparing the Brownies

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a 9″x9″ metal baking pan with non-stick foil or regular foil coated with non-stick spray. This step is crucial for easy removal after baking.

  2. Melt and Mix: In a heavy large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips together until smooth. Once melted, remove from heat.

  3. Incorporate Sugar and Eggs: Whisk in the granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking thoroughly after each addition.

  4. Add Vanilla and Color: Stir in the vanilla extract, salt, and your choice of red food coloring. Mix until the color is evenly distributed.

  5. Combine Dry Ingredients: Sift the all-purpose flour and baking powder together. Gradually stir this into the wet ingredients, blending until the batter is smooth and well combined.

  6. Bake: Pour the batter into your prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the brownies are puffed and dry-looking on top, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.

  7. Cool: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Making the Frosting

  1. Melt and Mix: In a small saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk and white chocolate chips. Heat over low heat, stirring frequently until fully melted and smooth.

  2. Frost the Brownies: Pour the warm frosting over the cooled brownies while they are still in the pan, spreading it evenly across the surface.

  3. Decorate: Immediately top with Valentine M&M’s and heart-shaped sprinkles, pressing them gently into the frosting.

  4. Set and Chill: Allow the frosting to set. For best results, place the pan in the refrigerator overnight.

Serving Suggestions

Once the frosting is set, lift the brownies out of the pan using the foil. Cut them into squares or heart shapes for an extra festive touch. Serve these delightful treats as a centerpiece for a romantic dinner, or package them in a decorative box as a thoughtful homemade gift.

Tips for Success

  • Food Coloring: Gel food coloring typically provides a more intense red hue with less liquid, which can be beneficial for keeping your batter’s consistency just right.

  • Mixing: Be mindful not to overmix the batter once the flour is added to avoid dense brownies.

  • Cooling: Patience is key! Allowing the brownies to cool completely before frosting ensures the topping sets properly.

These Valentine Red Velvet Brownies are not only a feast for the eyes but also a treat for the taste buds. With their vibrant color and velvety texture, they’re a surefire way to add a touch of sweetness to your Valentine’s celebration. Enjoy baking and sharing this delightful dessert with those you love!
