Heavenly Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies

Valentine’s Day is a time for love, affection, and, of course, indulgent desserts. Nothing says “I love you” quite like homemade cookies, crafted with care and a touch of sweetness. This year, elevate your Valentine’s Day celebrations with these charming Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies. With a rich chocolate flavor and a delightful crunch from milk chocolate Valentine M&M’s, these cookies are sure to win over hearts.

The Recipe: Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 sticks butter, at room temperature
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Dutch process cocoa powder
  • 1/2 bag milk chocolate Valentine M&M’s

Instructions:

  1. Cream the Butter and Sugar:
Start by combining the butter and granulated sugar in a stand mixer. Beat on medium speed until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes, creating a creamy base for your cookies.

  2. Incorporate the Egg and Vanilla:
Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the egg and vanilla extract. Continue mixing until they’re just combined. This step ensures your cookies have a rich, even texture.

  3. Add the Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the all-purpose flour and Dutch process cocoa powder to the mixer. Mix slowly until the ingredients are fully incorporated, forming a cohesive dough. The cocoa powder will infuse the cookies with a deep chocolate flavor.

  4. Prepare to Roll Out the Dough:
Transfer the cookie dough onto a large piece of parchment paper. Place another sheet of parchment on top, and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Rolling between parchment paper prevents sticking and makes transferring easier.

  5. Chill the Dough:
Carefully place your rolled-out dough, still sandwiched between parchment paper, on a cutting board. Refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Chilling helps the dough firm up, making it easier to cut into shapes.

  6. Preheat and Prep:
Once your dough is chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the top layer of parchment paper and use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out your cookies.

  7. Transfer and Decorate:
Use a thin spatula to transfer the cut-out cookies to an ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate each cookie with the milk chocolate Valentine M&M’s, pressing them gently into the dough.

  8. Bake to Perfection:
Place the cookie sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-13 minutes. The cookies should be set but not too firm, as they’ll continue to harden as they cool.

  9. Cool Completely:
Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheet before transferring them to an airtight container. This prevents them from breaking and helps them maintain their shape.

  10. Repeat:
Roll out, cut, decorate, and bake the remaining dough until you’ve used it all. Enjoy the process and anticipate the delicious results.

Tips for Perfect Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies

  • Room Temperature Butter: Ensuring your butter is at room temperature is crucial for achieving the right texture. It should be soft enough to leave an indent when pressed but not melting.
  • Uniform Thickness: Rolling the dough evenly ensures consistent baking. Using rolling pin guides can help achieve uniform thickness.
  • Chill Your Dough: Don’t skip the chilling step. It prevents the cookies from spreading too much, maintaining their adorable heart shapes.

These Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies are more than just a dessert; they’re a heartfelt gesture. Whether you’re gifting them to a loved one or sharing them with friends, these cookies are a delightful way to celebrate the season of love. Happy baking and even happier Valentine’s Day!
