Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies: A Sweet Celebration of Love

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate love and affection, and what better way to express your feelings than with homemade treats? These Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies are a delightful blend of rich cocoa flavor and the playful crunch of Valentine’s-themed M&M’s. Whether you’re baking for a significant other, friends, or family, these cookies are sure to make hearts flutter and taste buds dance.

Ingredients

To create these delightful Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1-1/4 cup granulated sugar: Adds sweetness and helps in achieving that perfect cookie texture.
  • 2 sticks butter, room temperature: The creamy base that gives these cookies their rich flavor.
  • 1 egg: Acts as a binder, bringing all the ingredients together.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract: Adds a hint of warmth and enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour: The foundation of any great cookie, providing structure.
  • 1/2 cup Dutch process cocoa powder: For that deep, chocolatey goodness.
  • 1/2 bag milk chocolate Valentine M&M’s: These colorful candies add a festive touch and a delightful crunch.

Instructions

Follow these simple steps to bake your way to a delicious Valentine’s Day:

  1. Creaming the Butter and Sugar: Start by combining the butter and granulated sugar in a mixer. Beat on medium speed until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes and is crucial for creating a soft, tender cookie.

  2. Incorporate the Egg and Vanilla: Turn the mixer to low and add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat until just combined. This step ensures that the egg is well distributed, providing structure and moisture to the dough.

  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually beat in the flour and Dutch process cocoa powder. Make sure to mix until just combined, avoiding overmixing, which can lead to tough cookies.

  4. Roll Out the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a large piece of parchment paper. Place another piece of parchment on top and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. This method prevents sticking and makes the dough easy to handle.

  5. Chill the Dough: Transfer the rolled dough onto a cutting board and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the dough helps the cookies maintain their shape during baking.

  6. Preheat and Cut: Once the dough is chilled, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the top layer of parchment and use heart-shaped cutters to cut out your cookies.

  7. Transfer and Decorate: Use a thin spatula to transfer the cut-out cookies to an ungreased cookie sheet. Decorate each cookie with the Valentine M&M’s by gently pressing them into the dough.

  8. Bake: Place the cookies in the preheated oven and bake for 10-13 minutes. The cookies should be set around the edges but still slightly soft in the center.

  9. Cool and Store: Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheet before transferring them to an airtight container. This helps them set and prevents breakage.

  10. Repeat: Continue rolling, cutting, and baking until all the dough has been used.

  11. Enjoy: Share these delightful cookies with your loved ones and enjoy the sweet taste of Valentine’s Day.

Tips for Perfect Cookies

  • Use Room Temperature Butter: This ensures even mixing and a smooth dough.
  • Avoid Overbaking: Keep an eye on the cookies as they bake; they should be firm on the edges but soft in the center when you take them out.
  • Get Creative with Decorations: While Valentine M&M’s add a festive flair, feel free to use other colorful candies or sprinkles to personalize your cookies.

These Valentine Chocolate Sugar Cookies are more than just a treat; they’re a heartfelt gesture of love and appreciation. Perfect for gifting or indulging in with a glass of milk, these cookies are sure to make your Valentine’s Day extra special. Happy baking!
